Dec. 10th, 2006 01:13 pmLast night, I started watching the final bunch of episodes for SG-1 season 3. Had a good time with "Shades of Grey." Then, I got to "New Ground," and something kept nagging at me. Oh, it was technically a good enough episode, but that something kept nagging.
Then, I had a realization. "New Ground" is, effectively, an episode right out of the classic Doctor Who series. Think about it:
The team lands on a planet where two factions are busy fighting one another for idealogical reasons that really aren't worth it. The team is then separated, with the majority being captured by millitary who think they're spies for the other side, while the remaining uncaptured team member goes 'underground.' Attempts at reasoning go nowhere fast, and here there be many conspiracies.
Ok, to be fair, the exploratory episodes of SG-1 (as opposed to the more millitary ones) function on the same principle as DW in general. Just replace 'Stargate' with 'TARDIS'. Nonetheless, I *really* felt it in this episode. If someone had only thought to put a scarf on Daniel, I would have died right there.
(I admit, I haven't finished watching yet, as it was late and I was tired. If I change my mind about anything by the end of this episode, I'll edit the entry accordingly.)
